Bloomberg Masters in Business Podcast

Bloomberg has a daily podcast (“Bloomberg Surveillance”) but this weekly edition tends to feature higher profile guests and less of the daily swings in market sentiment that sometimes give volatility to the quality of daily financial news podcasts. Each week, the podcast chooses new economics, business or finance-related topics and delves into it in some detail by interviewing an expert on the topic. Few news organizations can pull in the big names like Bloomberg, and that’s reflected in the quality of the industry experts they interview each week.

The Davd Ramsey

Dave Ramsey, one of the most well-known financial experts, hosts The Dave Ramsey Show, a nearly all call-in radio show where he and his co-hosts give direct, sometimes harsh, but practical financial advice. Part of Ramsey Solutions’ lineup, the show releases nearly three hours of content daily, broken into three one-hour episodes. While Ramsey has stepped back slightly, other hosts now share the spotlight, continuing to help millions navigate their financial challenges and work toward financial freedom.

The Compound and Friends

Josh Brown, Michael Batnick, and a rotation of their friends every Friday for expert insight and hot takes on the latest in business and investing. Entertaining content and valuable guest speakers.

We Study Billionaires is essentially a review of books on successful entrepreneurs and investors such as Ray Dalio, Warren Buffett, George Soros and even Bill Gates. The presenters do a great job of summarizing interesting books, giving you a flavor of what to expect from each. The content is highly accessible and fairly low on technical detail. The treatment of the world’s best investors as demi-gods is also a little irksome, but this is an enjoyable listen, notwithstanding. This is like the easy-listening section for finance enthusiasts.

The Rich Dad Radio Show

Robert Kiyosaki is one of the most polarizing figures in the financial industry. His financial advice shook millions of people all over the world — “if you want financial freedom and be able to afford anything you want, invest in real estate using debt and create passive income.” Some of his investment strategies also include investing in gold and silver, rather than hanging on to your benjamins. This podcast will make you question your money management skills, and might rearrange your financial goals.

The Disciplined Investor

Every week, host Andrew Horowitz goes into granular detail about what he sees happening in the markets and where they’re likely to head next. The lead story, let’s say US-China tariff wars, is intertwined with different topics such as investment portfolios, currency fluctuations and which stocks are most likely to be affected by the wars. It’s always well thought-through and topical. This one is unashamedly aimed at experienced investors, but is mostly accessible to novice investors who are looking for something with more technical content.

Invest Like the Best

This podcast’s heading may be a misnomer: It gives the impression that it’s going to help novice investors work their way through the maze of investments, endowing them with tips from the best in the game. In fact, Invest Like the Best is not a million miles from the Disciplined Investor (see previous entry), with more emphasis on ideas — say, investing in cryptocurrency or private equity — than the newsfeed of the day. It also features regular visits from well-known Wall Street figures.

Planet Money

Planet Money is NPR’s money-related show, and as such, features intelligent and objective comments on what’s going on in the world of finance and economics. Examples of recent shows include features on the likely effects of inflation over the next two years, and how Vladimir Putin has managed to sanction-proof the Russian economy. As an NPR show, it reaches a wide audience of nearly half a million people, and that also gives it access to some of the brightest thinkers working in money today. The show is a great mix of the topical and the theoretical, enabling listeners to apply sometimes complex financial theories to what’s going on around them in a particular moment in time.

The Intrinsic Value Podcast is one of the best podcasts out there for deep breakdowns of businesses and estimating their valuations, with a digestible format for newer and intermediate level investors. Combining storytelling, numbers, and the principles of investing learned from studying legends for years, the show should be your first stop for better understanding the companies it covers weekly. In just an hour or so, Shawn O’Malley provides an approachable and understandable yet deeply researched outline, answering questions about some of the most interesting businesses in the world and, importantly, trying to decide whether they’re fairly valued by Mr. Market.
